One of the best ways to make dramatic improvements to a person’s smile is to apply veneers. Consisting of thin, wafer-like shells, veneers are applied to the front surface of teeth in order to enhance their appearance and correct certain flaws. With their highly impressive versatility and overall simplicity, veneers are on their way to becoming one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in dentistry. At Oasis Family Dental, we are proud to offer patients both porcelain and composite veneers.

There are many applications for veneers in cosmetic dentistry, including:

  • Adjusting tooth color
  • Correcting misshapen and crooked teeth
  • Repairing teeth with minor damage or chips
  • Altering tooth size, shape and contour

Because of their ultra-thin design, veneers are almost entirely invisible once they have been applied. They are specifically designed to give off the appearance of healthy, white tooth enamel. Veneers are also stain-resistant, and they should not become discolored due to exposure from tobacco products or dark-colored beverages such as coffee, wine or juice. When maintained properly, a set of veneers should last for about ten years before needing to be replaced.

The first step when applying veneers is to shave off a small amount of tooth enamel on teeth that are going to be covered with the veneers. This will ensure that the veneers will fit properly. Next, we use etching gel to roughen the outer surfaces of the teeth so that the veneers can bond more easily. The teeth will then be thoroughly cleaned, and the veneers will be carefully applied.
